The Automation Engineer creates and automates test scripts; creates documented manual test cases where automation isn’t feasible; performs test execution; and tracks defects using the defined QA tools, processes, and methodology. The Automation Engineer will apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to automate QA processes and test scripts in order to maximize product quality and value delivered to customers and stakeholders. The Automation Engineer contributes innovative thought processes and introduces technologies and approaches for automation while possessing practical, real-world implementation skills.

  • Adhere to established Patterson QA standards for Quality Assurance Process and Methodology.

  • Collaborate with software/systems personnel in application testing, such as system, unit, regression, load, stress, performance, destructive, and acceptance testing methods

  • Participate in new and existing software development work across products or projects

  • Demonstrate innovation in developing a complete automation solution for reducing test execution cycles, increasing overall test coverage, and improving product quality

  • Create dynamic and ever-evolving automation scripts that are repeatable and executable by everyone on the QA Team

  • Participate in research, evaluation and implementation of automated testing tools

  • Develop and maintain test automation interfaces and automated testing environments utilizing an automation framework

  • Provide regular status as directed throughout the release cycle to the appropriate leadership and development team members

  • Act as a core team member of a product or project team focused on delivering customer value

Additional Functions

  • Participate in regulatory and compliance activities

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree with emphasis on Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or related field or equivalent education or software experience

  • 3+ Years of experience in quality assurance and testing application /development

  • Ability to conduct research into software-related issues and products

  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail and able to prioritize.

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Knowledge of database, cloud, and web technologies

  • Comprehensive understanding of software test methodologies including white box, black box, functional, unit, feature, regression, integration, performance and scalability

  • Proven analytical and complex problem-solving abilities

  • Experience automating test cases for cloud, web based, or desktop applications beyond record/playback

  • Experience with modern programming languages

  • Experience using source code management systems

  • Knowledge of software development methodologies and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field or equivalent work experience

  • Quality Assurance or Automation focused certification is a plus

  • Experience with building automation frameworks

  • Proven experience as automation engineer in a product development environment

  • Proven ability to learn and introduce new technologies, trends and ideas

  • Software as a medical device and/or dental industry experience

  • Experience in multi-browser and cross platform testing

  • Experience automating and testing mobile apps

Working Environment

  • Office environment – either in Patterson facility or at home/remote location

  • Travel to corporate sites is periodically required (Quarterly or so

  • Periodic on call rotations and available outside of normal business hours on evenings and weekends during critical production release or issue escalation periods

The potential compensation range for this role is below. The final offer amount could exceed this range, based on various factors such as candidate location (geographical labor market), experience, and skills.

$90,000 - $110,000
